Shoreland Restoration Meeting
The 2024 Shoreland Restoration Meeting is planned for Saturday, June 8 at the Log Church in Crosslake. The meeting will be held in the Bethlehem Room from 8am to Noon. Coffee and tea will be available.

AIS Roundtable - 8th Annual
You are invited to the 8th Annual AIS Roundtable: Saturday, June 1st from 8:30AM to 12:00PM at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, Crosslake.
Dive into Innovation: Harnessing Zebra Mussel DNA for Control, Biological Strategies to Prevent Biofouling, and Revitalizing Biodiversity at Cattail-Dominated Shorelines.
The Whitefish Area Property Owners Association (WAPOA) and the Crow Wing County Lakes and Rivers Alliance (LARA) want to kick-off the summer season “at the lake” with the 8th annual Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Roundtable program.
The program will be in-person with coffee and sweets, and will also be available in a virtual format. We invite our members, area lake association members, local government oficials, neighbors, students, and all interested persons to attend this no-fee event.
We are pleased to again offer a program with Dr. Nick Phelps, Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota, and Director of the Minnesota AIS Research Center (MAISRC). He will provide a report updating AIS research successes, current plans, and new decision-making initiatives about AIS management. MAISRC research successes are the long-term key to managing AIS populations.
Moreover, we are thrilled to host three MAISRC researchers and learn about their exciting projects:
Dr. Daryl Gohl will present on the establishing a proof-of-concept for using genetic technology for the control of zebra mussels.
Dr. Mikael Elias will discuss using innovative coatings to prevent the attachment of zebra mussels.
Dr. Amy Schrank will explore how increasing the diversity of aquatic plants on your shoreline can benefit the lakes ecosystems.
Thanks to MAISRC’s research over the past ten years, invasive species can be located earlier, better response to new infestations exist, and new tools developed to control established populations. WAPOA and LARA, as MAISRC partners, have served an important mission of strong advocacy for actions to sustain and improve quality surface and ground water in the Whitefish Area and throughout Crow Wing County.
